I'm sorry Tiffany that you've been feeling homesick.. that can be the pits! I've heard (and read) from various sources that you need to take 7,000 calories away per week from your 'maintenance' calorie allowance to lose 1 kg. That's different for everyone. There's a wonderful site I was referred to and it has so many great free weight loss resources within the site..it's fun actually to navigate your way around it all! It's www.sparkpeople.com You have to register, but it's quick and free and there are so many helpful pages on there. This site also says that to lose a pound of fat a week you need a calorie deficit of around 500 calories less a day (which equates to the 7,000) per week to lose a kilo. When you register and they ask your weight you can put it in kilo's or pounds. There are all kinds of challenge you can do, like 'One time Challenges' 'Diet Stage challenges'..and 'Daily Challenges' and you earn points as you click on these challenges and track how you're doing. It really gets you involved! Posting to the message boards gets you 3 points for example! Instead of using kilo's for example to track success, they award you points for every little bit you do on their site as it helps you keep on track with your weight loss. You get a point for loggin on each day..and can spin a wheel for bonus points too! You get a trophy when you get to 100 points apparantly! It might be a cyber-trophy, but it's still a reward! When you first register the site will take you through an optional process that will calculate your BMI and how many calories a day you need. I was able to see at a glance, that to get out of the 'obese' range I have to weigh no more than 79.7 kilo's for my height (163cm). It works out a profile for you and will tell you how many calorie's you need to eat each day to lose weight according to your goals (never going below 1200 though). You nominate your goal, you nominate a date. It doesn't recommend you lose more than a kilo a week. Anyway, I've been rambling enough about this.. you probably already know about this site as it's been mentioned on LITS before by Carissa. Just thought I'd share anyway!
